Nissha Printing Co., Ltd. is sponsoring the special exhibition “Painting the MIYAKO -Age of Rakuchu-Rakugai-zu (Grand View of Kyoto)-” being held at the Museum of Kyoto. The Rakuchu-Rakugai-zu folding screens appeared at the beginning of the 16th Century and contain lively drawings of everything from the political system of the people in power down to individual scenes of the lives of the townspeople of Kyoto. They provide a vivid description of Kyoto in the time when it was transforming into a new modern city.
This exhibition centers on the collection of the Rakuchu-Rakugai-zu folding screens owned by the National Museum of Japanese History, which is one of the best collections in the country. It also introduces the culture of Kyoto and the way things were in the city with a wide variety of materials that include pictures, documents and archaeological artifacts.
